In the yesr 1540, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado led a heavily armed expedition out of Mexico in search of the Seven Cities of Gold.  Two years later he returned to Mexico empty-handed.  He did, however, leave behind a fabulous treasure for the native peoples......the horse.
